Veterans in Mind

Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust provide mental health services for military veterans in Cheshire and Merseyside (excluding Liverpool). The service support veterans by delivering specialist high quality care with a focus on improving psychological wellbeing, increasing social networks and long- term recovery. We work in partnership with Britain’s leading mental health charity, Combat Stress to deliver this service, ensuring effective clinical treatment and welfare support to veterans who suffer from ongoing psychological issues, resulting from their time as a serving Armed Forces member.

The Trust and Combat Stress have a long working relationship and together provide highly skilled staff with the right expertise to work effectively with military veterans, who are experiencing psychological related problems as a result of their military service, these include depression, anxiety, substance misuse, trauma, adjustment disorders and problems relating to personality disorder.

In addition to the clinical services, we provide the necessary links to support veterans and their families with housing, financial and social needs.

Help for Heroes

Help for Heroes provides direct, practical support for wounded, injured and sick service personnel, veterans and their loved ones from any conflict. They have 4 recovery centres in the UK offering medical care, guidance support and advice. Patients can self-refer or be referred by a professional. Once referred, an initial assessment will take place within 1-2 weeks and there is no waiting list for treatment.


Op COURAGE – The Veterans Mental Health & Wellbeing Service

Op COURAGE is an NHS mental health specialist service designed to help serving personnel due to leave the military, reservists, armed forces veterans and their families.


Op RESTORE – The Veterans Physical Health & Wellbeing Service

Op RESTORE: The Veterans Physical Health and Wellbeing Service is an NHS service that supports individuals who have served in, or are leaving, the UK Armed Forces and have continuing, physical health injuries and related medical problems attributed to their time in
the Armed Forces. Working together with military and civilian medical professionals, along with Armed Forces charities, our teams understand military life and the longer-term care and support that may be required for veterans, Service leavers, reservists, families and carers.
